How to Purchase a Puppy from Skyview Decker & Old Dominion Terriers
How To Find A Reputable Breeder
Our comprehensive puppy-rearing practices include extensive socialization, mental enrichment, and health-focused nurturing, resulting in Decker and Old Dominion Terrier puppies that are confident, physically robust, and emotionally prepared to seamlessly transition into their new homes. Skyview’s puppies join their new families starting at 8 weeks and 4 days old, ready to bring joy, companionship, and beauty to their forever homes.
Before you start searching for your ideal puppy, we encourage you to read and consider this article: appropriate puppy buyer etiquette. Success begins not with “looking for a puppy,” but with “finding the right breeder.” Partnering with a reputable breeder ensures you’re on the right path to welcoming a wonderful new family member. A trustworthy breeder prioritizes the health and advancement of the breed, planning litters thoughtfully and ethically rather than for profit alone.
Additionally, we highly recommend reading Your Pandemic Puppy by Dr. Marty Greer before bringing your puppy home, whether you are a first-time puppy owner or experienced. Despite its title, this book is an essential resource for all new puppy parents, providing valuable insights to ensure a smooth transition and a happy, healthy start.
How To Place a Deposit on a Decker and/or Old Dominion Terrier Puppy
Our policy on pricing is as follows:
We require a $500.00 deposit to reserve one of our puppies. Your deposit is deducted from the total purchase price.
The price quoted to you in your first message or email from us will be the price you pay for your puppy provided that:
- Your deposit securing your place on our waiting list is received within 10 days of that email/message, and
- You accept the first puppy you are offered that conforms to the preferences you stated on joining the list.
Alternatively, if you postpone to a later litter for any reason the price you will pay will be in accord with the prices current at that time.
When you are offered a puppy from a new litter and decide to accept your placement in that litter, an additional payment of $500 toward the purchase price is required within 5 days of acceptance. The remaining balance is payable when your puppy is 8 weeks and 4 days old (the usual day you pick your puppy up).
- In the event that you cannot complete the purchase of the puppy (sometimes life happens! We get that.) your deposit will/can be held, and you may apply it to a future Decker or Old Dominion Terrier puppy if you wish.
- If you cancel your placement on the list for any reason we will refund your deposit minus $100 admin fee.
- If you cancel your placement on the list after being allocated and accepting a puppy your payment(s) to date is/are non-refundable but will be held for you as a credit on your next puppy from one of our future litters.
- If we are unable to provide a puppy for you in the timeframe estimated in our first email to you, and you wish to leave the list, you are entitled to a fast and complete refund.
- Puppies will be allocated according to receipt of deposits with the breeder retaining first pick on all litters.
- We ALWAYS reserve the right to refuse a sale if it is in the best interest of the puppy.
- Shipping fees are due when it’s time for the puppy to ship at 8 weeks and 4 days old.
- If it’s requested that a puppy be kept past the 8 week and 4-day period, we can make accommodations for a fee. Please contact us directly if this is something you will be needing.
- If I contact you numerous times for your puppy allocation and you are unreachable, I will move on to the next people on the list and you will have the choice of either (A) being moved to another litter or (B) having your deposit refunded. (C) In the event that there are other puppies still available that are suitable for you, you may choose to allocate one of the remaining puppies.
- Skyview will not honor their lifetime health guarantee for dogs that are spayed or neutered before 2 years old. We are not going to stand behind our commitment if you knowingly and intentionally cause the problem! Do your research! There are more and more studies showing that delaying getting your animal altered until later in life has been beneficial in preserving their joint and tendon health tremendously. There are also other options being recommended such as hormone-preserving sterilization.
- We are also not responsible for vaccine damage. Keep your vaccines basic! Don’t over vaccinate! Once your puppy has had its initial round of puppy vaccines, it does not need another round for up to five years. The only exception may be their rabies shot if you plan to take your pet out and about with you. Those are required by law but make sure to check what kind your veterinarian is using. We recommend using the ones without the mRNA additive. If your veterinarian does not carry that kind, talk with them! You can order it from Revival Health and take it to them for them to administer it and fill out your certificate. Make sure to keep it refrigerated at all times!
WE ACCEPT CASH AND/OR CHECK PAYMENTS
The preferred method of payment is by check. Your name will only be added to the waiting list once your check has cleared the bank. If the final payment is made with a cashier’s check or postal money order, it must arrive and clear before we will release the puppy to you. If you choose to pick up your puppy in person, you will need to pay for the puppy in advance or bring cash to pay the balance due.
