Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee

If your puppy is returned for any reason other than an accident within 7 days of purchase, we will take the puppy back and refund 100% of the purchase price.
Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee
We are committed to the lifelong health and wellbeing of every puppy we raise. As part of that commitment, we offer a Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee â but only for conditions that are:
- 100% genetic or congenital in origin, and
- Either life-threatening or permanently and seriously debilitating
This Guarantee is in place to protect both you and your puppy from the rare but serious genetic disorders that can affect dogs â while maintaining fairness and clarity about what is and is not covered.
Whatâs Covered
If your puppy is diagnosed by a suitably qualified, licensed veterinarian as having a life threatening or seriously disabling defect of certain congenital/genetic origin any time in its life we will:
- Refund 100% of the purchase price of your puppy (i.e. not including transport or other costs), or
- Contribute to treatment costs, up to the purchase price, provided treatment is carried out at a veterinary clinic approved by us.
We reserve the right to request a second opinion from a veterinarian of our choice (at our expense). If the puppy is euthanized or in any way disposed of, without a second opinion from the sellerâs veterinarian, the buyer waives all rights to a refund or reimbursement.
To qualify, the condition must meet all the following criteria:
- Proven to be 100% genetic or congenital (not environmental or developmental)
- Severe enough to be life-threatening or permanently and seriously impair quality of life
Hip or Elbow Dysplasia
These conditions are only covered if all the following conditions are met:
- The dysplasia is severe (Grade 3 or 4 and accompanied by x-rays)
- The dog was not sterilized before 24 months of age
- The dog has never been allowed to become overweight or obese
Parent Health Testing & Guaranteed Clear Conditions
To reduce the risk of hereditary disease, we routinely test all breeding dogs and only pair genetically compatible mates.
In addition, all genetic diseases in Decker Rat Terriers and Old Dominion Terriers that we can genetically screen our parent dogs for are covered by this Guarantee, including (non-age related):
- Demodicosis/Demodectic mange
- Fanconi Syndrome
- Persistent Pupillary Membranes (PPM)
- Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PK)
- Congenital Hypothyroidism
- PLL
- PRA
- Degenerative Myelopathy
Because of this testing, your puppy is guaranteed not to develop these conditions.
We continuously update our health testing protocols in line with scientific advances and breed-specific risks to ensure your puppy gets the best possible start in life.
Whatâs Not Covered
To keep this Guarantee fair and realistic, we do not cover:
- Any condition not conclusively diagnosed as 100% genetic or congenital
- Non-serious or cosmetic issues (e.g., overbites, hernias, cherry eye, mild allergies)
- Conditions caused by environmental factors, including poor diet, trauma, toxin exposure, infections, parasites, or inappropriate medication use
- Illnesses linked to routine medical procedures or owner choices that conflict with our health recommendations
Cancer
This Guarantee does not cover cancer, as it is not solely genetic in most cases.
However, we actively reduce your puppyâs cancer risk by:
- Breeding to improve genetic diversity
- Avoiding breeding from families with an above average incidence of cancer for the breed
- Providing owners with resources to reduce cancer risk through diet, lifestyle, and minimal exposure to toxins
Bloat (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus)
This condition is also not covered, as it is not solely a genetic defect.
Still, we reduce your puppyâs risk by:
- Avoiding lines with a predisposition to bloat
- Selecting structure and temperament traits that lower risk
- Educating owners on feeding practices and prevention strategies
In the Event of Death
If your puppy passes away and you believe a genetic issue is the cause, you must arrange a necropsy by a qualified veterinarian (at your expense) to determine the cause of death.
A refund will only be considered if the cause is confirmed to be:
- A genetic or congenital condition, or
- An illness present at the time of sale
Note: This warranty is void in the event of an undetermined or inconclusive diagnosis. Diseases of likely environmental origin (likely to be caused by suboptimal diet, chemicals, or trauma) are not covered.
Your Responsibilities
To maintain this Guarantee and safeguard your puppyâs long-term health, we expect owners to follow responsible care practices, including:
- A vet health check within 72 hours of receiving your puppy
- A natural, species-appropriate diet (including at least 20% raw meaty bones)
- Delayed desexing (after 24 months of age)
- Maintaining a healthy body weight
- Minimizing exposure to veterinary drugs except those necessary to protect your petâs health, such as excessive use of routine wormers, chemical flea/tick preventatives, and vaccines.
These recommendations are not just for compliance â theyâre part of our shared responsibility to help your dog live a long, healthy life.
Lifetime Rehoming Guarantee
Your puppy also has a lifetime rehoming guarantee with us, so should you have an inability to care for him or her in the future, you must contact us at any stage of your puppy’s life. Under no circumstances must your puppy ever be given up to a shelter.
